When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Have a Rotten Day!

near a river encouragement for kids rotten day bj rae bald eagle

If I wish you a rotten day, you will understand what I mean after reading this post.

Do you have a favorite expression?  I have one that a buddy shared with me.

As my friend Wendy and I walk early each morning, we stop to chat with just about everyone we encounter.  One day we stopped to chat with someone who later became a photography buddy of mine.

“So have you seen the eagles in their nest?” Wendy asked him.  “Not today”, he replied.

Then the conversation moved on to plenty of other topics. We chatted about the hunters in the area, the moose, and the bear, deer, and other wildlife that we often see.  He also showed us the pictures he had taken recently in his camera.  Since we were on the road where the eagles in my Near a River book lived, I decided to walk back to the nest and check to see if any of them were around this morning.  They were not, so I walked back to where Wendy and my buddy were chatting.

Just as they were ending the conversation, I approached them.  Right before he drove off, my photography buddy said to Wendy, “Have a rotten day!” Then Wendy and I continued walking.

I told her it was funny that my buddy had said, “Have a rotten day”.  She stated the obvious, that is just his way of wishing everyone a good day.

So Wendy and I adopted the same expression as our favorite expression.  When others hear us saying “Have a rotten day!” as we part company, we sometimes get strange looks.  But it is much less boring than saying, “Hope you have a great day!”

When I wish you a rotten day, I sincerely mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Have a rotten day every day of your life just as an eagle flying above the storm does.

Another interesting walk Wendy and I took.

Let’s give our country a rotten day, too!

Everyone should stand tall anyway.

Can you answer my questions?

I had never heard it put that way B J but I sure do like it! As you stated, “I hope you have a rotten day”!
